Goal 4 - Good education

Getting an education is a human right, but despite that, approximately 774 million people in the world cannot read. Most are women. The fact that so many lack education is a major problem because it is one of the most important foundations for both health, gender equality and the opportunity to participate and work for a sustainable society.

The goal by 2030 is for all children to receive good, free schooling. Unfortunately, many children drop out of school prematurely; poverty, pregnancy or addiction are some of the causes. In several of the IOGT-NTO movement's projects in the world, we strengthen young people so that they can take the student. It is an important start to a good future.

Tell us about your interpretation

Education is the basis for most things that a civilized person values highly - democracy, peace, welfare, equality. The fact that almost one billion people in the world will nevertheless not be able to read and write in 2021 can thus only be regarded as a failure of humanity. The view that girls do not need or should not acquire knowledge in any broad sense is a stubborn remnant of a mostly past patriarchal world. Thankfully, the view of knowledge as something statically transferable also belongs more and more to the past. We know today that knowledge is something organic, something infinitely multifaceted, and if you will - something fabulously exciting.
