Mr. Augustin, a teacher in charge of a school club at GS Gihundwe in Rusizi District, Rwanda. Is a living testament to the impact of the Youth-led action against alcohol and drug harm project that is implemented by Rwanda Girl Guides Association (RGGA) in partnership with IOGT-NTO Movement. Despite appearing to live a normal life as a father and educator, he struggled with addiction to alcohol and tobacco. He admitted, "I was addicted to alcohol and tobacco, always craving a cigarette or a drink. It had gotten so bad that I couldn't function without them.” His dependence on these substances had taken a toll on his health and well-being.

In 2021, a chance encounter with an awareness campaign organized by RGGA at the Kamembe market sparked a moment of introspection for Mr. Augustine. He realized the harmful effects of his addiction and made a commitment to reduce his alcohol and tobacco consumption. The following year, he took a significant step towards sobriety when he volunteered to lead an anti-alcohol and drug abuse club at his school.

Through this new role, Mr. Augustin found a renewed sense of purpose and determination to stay sober. His journey towards recovery has not only transformed his own life but also inspired others to follow suit. By sharing his story during peer educators and teacher training sessions, stating "I am on a mission to make a difference and lead by example." he has now become an inspiration for those seeking to break free from the cycle of addiction.

His transformation serves as a powerful example of the positive impact of raising awareness and taking action against substance abuse.
