The film about Kim Eng's work for an alcohol law is being shown at the Copenhagen Film Festival!
On March 12, the new Danish documentary “Cambodian Beer Dreams” will premiere at the Copenhagen Film Festival. The film depicts the work to strengthen alcohol legislation in Cambodia and focuses on Kim Eng, leader of our partner organization PDP-Center, with whom we have collaborated for several years.
In Cambodia, the beer market is growing rapidly. At the same time, regulation is weak and marketing is aggressive. The documentary highlights how this affects young people, female beer sellers and families, and follows civil society's efforts to introduce a national alcohol law.
Since 2006, we have been collaborating with PDP-Center to strengthen public health and human rights in Cambodia. The work is about raising evidence, influencing decision-makers, and strengthening the voices of vulnerable groups.
– We are proud of the long-term collaboration with our partner. Change requires long-term thinking, courage and international solidarity, says Johan Bengtsson, our international manager, who is attending the premiere in Copenhagen.
The film shows how civil society plays a crucial role in pushing for regulations that protect people's health and rights. Alcohol policy is not just a public health issue, it is also a matter of development, gender equality and social sustainability.
